Deciding Whether Or Not A Rowing Machine Is Right For You |
When you consider buying some type of fitness machine so that you can get a good cardiovascular workout at home, you might want to consider purchasing a rowing machine rather than a treadmill or elliptical machine. There are a number of reasons for this.
First of all, a rowing machine will work out your whole body, including the muscles in both your upper and lower body as well as your cardiovascular system. This means that you might not even need to spend as much time lifting weights in order to stay toned. Other equipment meant for cardio workouts tends to just work out your lower body, although you can use the arm handles on the elliptical machine in order to get a bit of an arm workout.
Second, the workout you get from a rowing machine is low impact, unlike that which you get while running on a treadmill. This means that even those who have joint issues are likely to be able to do it with no problem. Of course the elliptical also offers a low impact workout, so if this is your main concern this type of machine would also work out.
You can use these types of machines to build muscles, gain endurance, and become more flexible. Just changing the resistance settings can turn your workout from one building up your endurance to one that builds your muscles. It is a very versatile machine. There is another reason why you might prefer a rowing machine over other types of cardio machines. Rowing machines can cost slightly less than these other machines, meaning that for the same price you would spend to get an adequate treadmill or elliptical you can buy a really good rowing machine. Not only this, but the can take up a lot less space. There are models that fold up so you can store them in the closet, or that are low enough to the ground that you can push them under the bed when you are not using them. This means you won't necessarily need a dedicated space for your rower like you would for a treadmill or elliptical machine.
